Amanda Lamb Photography

I'm continuing my posts featuring business owners and entrepreneurs in our neighborhood. This week is Amanda Lamb with Amanda Lamb Photography! I asked her to do a little guest post and also give us "wanna be" photographers a couple of tips to help us out at home as we try and capture those ever so fleeting moments of our kids!

Amanda Lamb Photography

I love warmth. Either from a sunny day, or in a cup of coffee, from my children’s smiling faces, or the love all over the faces of a couple. I love people. I love capturing their eyes and the warmth from their soul. I love letting them see themselves the way I see them. I love knowing that I’ll be giving a couple a chance to treasure a memory for a lifetime. I’m Amanda Lamb. I photograph life’s happy moments.

My business started in 2006. While in high school and college, I dreamed of being a professional photographer, but was worried it couldn't be a "real job." So instead, I became a high school teacher, and some of my students entrusted me with their senior pictures. The next year, after having my daughter, I did my first wedding and was completely hooked, and in love with love. Now, I'm a full time photographer, and I love just about every second of it.

I'm so excited to have the opportunity to share three quick tips with you for making your own family photos better!

Tip #1: The old adage is true! "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough!" -Robert Capa
If you're wanting more emotion and detail in your images, make a conscious effort to get closer to your subject.

Tip #2: Light what's important! If your subject is well lit in your picture, the cluttered room they're in won't matter as much. It'll just become part of the story.

Tip #3: Get out from behind the camera! There's a feeling (especially among moms and dads of young kids) that you're not "appearance worthy" enough to be photographed. This simply just isn't true. Especially among moms and dads of young kids. ;) These moments are fleeting, and they can't be recovered. In 10 years, you will look back fondly on these times, and while capturing the day to day is SO important, it's also incredibly important to take the time to be photographed with your family right now. In this moment. No one will notice the 10 pounds you'd like to lose. No one will notice the dark circles under your eyes from lack of sleep (especially since a great photographer will be able to make them disappear with the right lighting). All anyone will see is your beautiful moments, and your beautiful family. And your children will someday be so very grateful to you for getting out from behind your camera to have your relationship professionally captured!

Thuy's

I'm sure most of us (at least us women) have stopped in to Thuy's Nails & Spa at sometime since living in Greyhawk.  What I didn't know was that Thuy was one of my neighbors! I thought I would tell you a little bit about Thuy and her family so we could get to know our neighbor and her family run business.

Thuy's family immigrated from Can Tho, Vietnam to Colorado Springs in 1997.  Like many of us, she decided on pursuing the true American dream of owning her own business and does something that she truly enjoys. I can sense that when I walk into her nail salon as she and her family are always in a good mood and seem like they are having a great time.  She aims to provide the best nail service possible and be a valued member of the community.  I definitely value having a place to go in a get a little relaxation and mommy time at the end of a hard day (not to exclude all the men who I'm sure could use a nice foot soak).  I think this might be a good place for our next Greyhawk girls night!! Maybe Thuy might have to take the night off and enjoy some relaxation time with us.

Delicious Decadence

Sarah Garner, one of our neighbors, has a bakery business right out of her home! She makes all different kinds of fun cupcakes, cake pops, cookies, mini cheesecakes and small 6" layer cakes. She uses all organic/natural ingredients (as much as possible), cage free eggs, organic milk, cream & butter. All of these items are made completely from scratch! If you want something fun for your next party give Sarah a call at 719-641-0208.

Beautiful New Listing in Greyhawk

This beautiful new listing has come on the market in our neighborhood. If you have any friends or family that are thinking of moving to the area keep this home in mind.

It's a rare thing to find a home that has been taken care of so meticulously! The gourmet kitchen is beautiful with Brazilian cherry cabinets and floors, a large granite island and glass tile back splash. Special attention to detail was paid when building this home. From everything to the additional outlets that you will find throughout the home, added windows, dimmer switches, Polk Audio 5.1 ceiling mount surround sound speakers to the fully insulated three car garage and exterior light activated driveway lighting. The views are stunning as well. You will be able to enjoy a front row seat to the Air Force air show and fireworks in the summer. A large spacious yard is another thing that you don't find everywhere and a level lot to enjoy every inch. Central air conditioning creates comfort year round. With 2780 square feet on the main level there is plenty of room but an unfinished basement with 9 ft ceilings leaves room for expansion. Enjoy the convenience of being close to I-25 and all of the new shopping and amenities that are currently being built. This home is also located in District 20 schools. Don't miss out on this great opportunity!

How to Make a Cash Offer Without Cash!!

Did you know you don't actually need cash in the bank to make a cash offer? Yes, that's right. By making a cash offer you just make the offer non-contingent on you getting a loan. You can still get money from a bank just like a normal purchase. So what's the catch? The only thing to be aware of is that if for some reason you do not qualify for the loan your earnest money would go to the Seller. So as long as you make sure you are pre-qualified through a dependable lender you can increase your odds of a Seller accepting an offer that they might have otherwise turned away. It can be a great strategy, not only in times like these where financing can be difficult, but also when Sellers receive multiple offers.
